Thermally conductive adhesive

Thermally conductive adhesive bonds components that also need a heat path, moving heat from a hot device into a housing, heat sink or chassis while holding the assembly together. The polymer provides adhesion and the filler network carries heat across the joint.

Choosing the right grade

Start from the heat path and the joint design. A thin, even bond line transfers heat better than a thick one, so gap control matters as much as filler loading. One-part RTV grades cure with ambient moisture and suit open assemblies and field repair, while two-part grades cure through the full section for deeper fills and faster cycles. Silicone stays flexible across wide temperature swings, epoxy adds stiffness, and polyurethane balances toughness with thermal performance. Surface preparation, cure schedule and the expansion of the two substrates decide whether the joint survives repeated cycling.

Typical uses include power supplies, LED modules, motor controllers, battery packs and power electronics where vibration and thermal cycling occur together.
