An anaerobic threadlocker adhesive fills the gaps between mating threads and cures into a tough thermoset plastic once air is excluded, preventing bolts, screws and studs from loosening under vibration. Unlike a lock washer or a nylon nut, it locks the whole thread engagement and also seals the joint against leakage.
Grades differ by strength and by whether the joint is meant to be taken apart again. Low-strength types are used on small screws that need routine service, medium types on machine tools and pumps, and high-strength types on studs and permanent assemblies. Cure speed depends on the metal, the temperature and the primer used, and full strength develops over time.
Choosing a threadlocking grade
Selection depends on thread diameter, the breakaway torque required, the service temperature, the surface finish and the dismantling method. Common applications include automotive and motorcycle fasteners, pump and compressor bolts, gearbox covers and electrical terminals. JOME supplies 263 and 277 thread locking adhesive that prevents bolts from coming loose, and the anaerobic threadlocker adhesive range should be matched to the thread size and the strength class required.
