SMP hybrid structural adhesive(MS adhesive) is a one-component, moisture-curing material built for load-bearing joints rather than simple gap filling. It cures into a tough elastic solid that grips metals, plastics, concrete and wood, and it accepts paint, which silicone adhesives generally do not.
The MS in the name refers to modified silane polymer chemistry: a polyether backbone with reactive silyl end groups. That structure gives low odour, no isocyanate content and good UV and weather resistance. Strength builds over time as atmospheric moisture diffuses into the bond line, so joint design must either allow moisture access or rely on a suitable cure schedule.
Choosing and using
Match modulus and elongation to the movement the assembly will see: stiffer grades for panel stiffening and frame bonding, softer grades for joints that flex. Clean and, where required, abrade the surfaces. Most common substrates need no primer, but glass and some plastics benefit from one.
JOME provides a one-part highly elastic SMP hybrid structural adhesive (MS adhesive), with the wider range in our SMP Hybrid Structural Adhesive (MS Adhesive) category.
