Polyurethane (PU) Structural Adhesive
Polyurethane PU structural adhesive is a toughened bonding system that combines strength with flexibility, so joints survive impact, peel and differential movement between dissimilar materials. Where a rigid epoxy might crack under flexing or thermal expansion, a polyurethane bond line stretches with the load and keeps the assembly together.
Two-part grades cure at room temperature and give a controllable working time, which suits larger parts and production lines without ovens. Formulations can be tuned for a rigid or flexible cured state, for gap filling, and for thermal conductivity where the bonded joint also has to transfer heat. The selection points are the substrates involved, the service temperature, the movement expected in the joint, and whether heat must pass through the adhesive.
Typical uses
Common duties include bonding of composite, plastic and metal panels, thermal insulation assemblies, housings where vibration is present, and structural joints that need some give rather than a brittle bond. Surface preparation and the mix ratio are critical to repeatable strength.
JOME offers polyurethane PU structural adhesive in several formulations, including a 2K polyurethane structural adhesive, a thermal insulation polyurethane structural bonding adhesive and a 2K thermal conductive polyurethane structural adhesive.
