A thermal conductive bonding adhesive is a structural adhesive with a thermally conductive filler, used to join a heat-generating component to a heatsink, housing or metal chassis while carrying heat across the bond line. It replaces mechanical fasteners and thermal grease in one step, which cuts part count and shortens the thermal path.
Bond line thickness controls much of the performance: a thin, even glue line conducts better, but it still has to tolerate the different expansion rates of the two substrates. Formulations are usually epoxy, polyurethane or silicone based, and the choice sets the strength, the flexibility, the cure schedule and the temperature range. Surface preparation and gap control matter as much as the adhesive itself.
Typical uses and selection
These adhesives are common in battery packs, power electronics, LED lamps, motor controllers, transformers and enclosure assembly, where a screw joint cannot give enough contact area. Selection looks at the substrates, the bond strength required, the thermal load, the curing equipment available and whether rework is needed. JOME supplies a thermal insulation polyurethane structural bonding adhesive (2.0W) and a 2K thermal conductive polyurethane structural adhesive (1.3W) for such assemblies.
OEM adhesive programmes and custom formulation services are available across the Thermal Conductive Bonding Adhesive range.
