Silicone structural adhesive is a silicone-based bonding material engineered to carry load while staying elastic. Where a general-purpose silicone sealant only fills a gap, a structural grade develops enough adhesion and tensile strength to replace mechanical fasteners in selected joints, and it holds that performance across a wide temperature range.
Two-part addition-curing silicones are common for structural work because they cure at room temperature without releasing acetic acid or other by-products, so they can be used next to sensitive electronics and coated surfaces. Bond strength depends heavily on surface preparation: silicone does not stick to silicone, and contaminated metal or plastic will fail at the interface rather than within the adhesive.
Where it fits
Typical uses include bonding glass to metal frames, attaching panels that expand and contract at different rates, sealing and bonding electrical housings, and joining components that see thermal cycling. Because the cured joint stays flexible, it absorbs differential movement instead of cracking.
JOME offers a high elasticity 2-part silicone structural adhesive, and related products appear in our Silicone Structural Adhesive category.
OEM adhesive programmes and custom formulation services are available across the Silicone Structural Adhesive range.
