Epoxy Sealants
Epoxy sealants are heat-curing or room-temperature-curing resin systems used to seal, bond and protect joints that must resist moisture, chemicals and temperature. Compared with elastomeric sealants, a cured epoxy forms a rigid, strong bond with low permeability, so it is chosen where strength and a durable seal matter more than flexibility.
Most epoxy sealants here are one-part systems that stay stable at room temperature and cure only when heated, giving a long shelf life and a controlled production cycle. Two-part grades cure at room temperature or with mild heat and are used when the assembly cannot go into an oven. Service temperature, the gap to be filled, the substrate pair and the amount of movement the joint must absorb decide the grade.
Applications and handling
Applications include housing and connector sealing, bonding of metal parts, and protection of assemblies exposed to heat or fluid. Surfaces must be clean and dry, the cure schedule has to be followed, and the joint should be designed so thermal expansion does not over-load the cured resin.
