Fluorosilicone sealant is a one- or two-part elastomeric sealant in which fluorine atoms are built into the siloxane structure. The result keeps the wide temperature flexibility of silicone while adding resistance to fuels, oils, hydraulic fluids and aromatic solvents, so a gasket or formed-in-place seal keeps its thickness and sealing force where a standard silicone would swell and lose compression.
Selection depends on the fluid the joint will see, the service temperature range, and whether the assembly needs a fast cure or a deep-section cure. One-component RTV grades cure with atmospheric moisture and are convenient for repair and small production runs; two-part grades cure uniformly through thick sections. Adhesion to aluminium, steel and plated surfaces is usually good, but contaminated or oily surfaces must be cleaned, because the same fuel resistance that protects the seal also makes it intolerant of a weak interface.
Typical applications
Typical applications include fuel and oil system gaskets, connector seals, sensor potting, and seals on equipment that is wiped down with solvent. Single-component RTV fluorosilicone sealant is a JOME product in this category, and JOME supplies fluorosilicone sealant for fuel, oil and solvent contact duties.
OEM adhesive programmes and custom formulation services are available across the Fluorosilicone Sealant range.
