Pre-coated thread sealant

Pre coated thread sealant is a water-based, factory-applied locking and sealing material dried onto fasteners before they are shipped. The coated bolt arrives ready to use: no liquid applied at the assembly line, no dripping, no pot life to watch, and a controlled amount of sealant on every thread.

Because the coating is dry to the touch, fasteners can be handled, packed and fed through automatic equipment. When the bolt is tightened, the film is compressed between the mating threads and fills the gaps, producing a seal against gas and liquid together with a controlled resistance to loosening under vibration.

Selection points

Three variables decide the grade: thread size and pitch, the torque the joint must reach, and how much locking strength is required, from a reusable low-breakaway film up to a permanent bond. Water-based chemistry is usually chosen where solvent emissions, odour and worker exposure need to be kept low, and colour coding helps identify the grade on the line.
