SMP hybrid sealants(silane modified polyether) cure through atmospheric moisture into a flexible, paint-friendly rubber. They combine the weathering and movement behaviour of silicone with the paintability, low odour and broad adhesion of polyurethane, and the common formulations contain neither isocyanate nor solvent.
Because the cured surface can be overpainted, SMP hybrids are often chosen for facade, window and transport joints where a visible seal must take a topcoat. They bond to a wide range of substrates, including concrete, metal, wood, PVC and most plastics, normally without a primer, although porous or oily surfaces still need preparation.
Selection points
Compare skin formation time, cure depth per day, elongation and modulus against the movement the joint must absorb, and confirm whether the joint will be painted or left exposed. One-part products need moisture, so deep or fully enclosed joints cure slowly and should be designed accordingly.
JOME supplies a one-part highly elastic SMP hybrid structural adhesive (MS adhesive), also listed in our SMP Hybrid Sealants (Silane Modified Polyether) category.
JOME is a SMP Hybrid Sealants supplier with its own factory, RoHS and REACH compliant grades and free trial samples.
