Anaerobic Adhesive

Anaerobic adhesive cures only when air is excluded and the joint is in contact with metal, so it stays liquid on the part until assembly closes the gap. That behaviour makes it reliable for locking threads, sealing pipe joints, retaining bearings and sealing flanges.

Grades and selection

Different jobs need different strengths. Thread lockers vary from low-strength grades for small screws that must be adjusted to high-strength grades for studs and permanent assemblies. Pipe sealants fill the spiral gap of threaded connections and cure into a solid seal that resists pressure and fluids. Retaining compounds fill the clearance between a bearing or bushing and its housing and add load capacity. Selection depends on the metal, the gap, the required strength, the service temperature and whether the joint must later be taken apart. A primer may be needed on inactive surfaces, and cure speed depends on the clearance and the metal ions present.
