There is no single best adhesive for plastic — the right choice depends on the type of plastic, the strength required and the environment. Most plastics bond well with cyanoacrylate, epoxy or UV adhesives, while low-surface-energy plastics like PP and PE need special treatment.
Cyanoacrylate (instant) adhesives
Fast and versatile, cyanoacrylate adhesives bond many rigid plastics in seconds. Ideal for quick assembly and small parts; toughened grades add durability.
Epoxy adhesives
For structural, load-bearing plastic bonds — and for bonding plastic to metal — use a two-part epoxy adhesive. Epoxies offer high strength and gap filling.
UV curing adhesives
For clear or transparent plastics, UV adhesives cure in seconds with high optical clarity and no clamping.
Bonding difficult plastics (PP, PE, PTFE)
Low-surface-energy plastics resist bonding. Improve adhesion with surface treatment (flame, plasma or primer) and a suitable specialised adhesive. Always test first.
Plastic bonding tips
- Identify the plastic type before choosing an adhesive
- Clean and degrease the surfaces
- Roughen smooth surfaces for better grip
- Test adhesion on a sample before production
